Meet the Photographer

Rick Daigle

Rick Daigle is a physician, concert pianist, and photographic artist based in Indianapolis. Rick worked for twenty years in defense intelligence, and continues to consult with governmental and non-governmental agencies in the subjects of nuclear forensics, nuclear non-proliferation, non-binary optical communications, and anti-proton production, cooling, and storage. He practices peri-operative medicine part time, and spends the rest of his time on his musical, artistic, and scientific projects.
When Rick was fourteen years old, he learned that his mother was pregnant with his baby sister. He immediately saved up his allowance enough to be able to buy a camera. In that moment, he knew that he was deeply interested in photographing his sister’s journey growing up from childhood into adulthood.
To this day, Rick’s photography explores deeply personal humanist stories that address aging, coming of age complexities, family dynamics, boyhood and brotherhood, as well as the deep connections one can have with their animal. He has studied photography with the New York Film Academy, as well as Mark Mann, Manfred Baumann, Ralph Gibson, Alain Laboile, Mona Kuhn, and Mark de Paola through the Leica Akademie, and he draws inspiration from humanist photographers such as Nicholas Nixon and Sally Mann.
His first photography monograph Gizmo is to be released in December 2025 supported by Leica Akademie USA, Leica Store San Francisco, and dePAOLA Pictures.
